August, 2023 There are two versions of maps archived from 2023. The first set in the "January" directory is in the original format. They were mostly updated in July thru Sept of 2022. The second set in the "August" directory are the new format maps, which have been updated mostly in May thru July of 2023. See description below for further details: The design was updated in the summer of 2023, including the enlarged 24x36 inch sheet sizes, slightly altered contents and a increase for number of sheets (see below). Every linear mile of primary and secondary routes (that are maintained by NCDOT) will be covered in the 4x inset scale which is currently 1:31,680 (or 1 inch = .5 mile). The base sheet will also be significantly different in the new format, no longer showing ANY SR numbers or mileages. Everything will be shown on either 4x or 8x inset sheets. Primary routes will now be shown using a color scheme; blue for NC routes, green lines for US routes and red linework showing interstates. Managed areas such as national forests and protected wildlife areas will be shown using new, colored fill patterns as well. Always check the sheet key for Also worth noting is that Andrew Bryson has been able to create an application that allows mappers to create a new PDF file containing all the sheets in a particular county. This allows us to offer one single PDF file per county and this file will allow a user to scroll through all the sheets currently available. This will be much easier to download considering the fact that our county maintenance maps consisted of a total of 373 sheets in 2022 but increased to over 550 sheets in 2023. So now we can offer 100 PDF files instead of 550-something individual files. If you have any questions concerning these new county maps, contact the mapping supervisor or Jon Broome.
